About Me

My photo
"It takes twice the man to ride half the bike." But really I myself am just a man. I have a DEEP passion for the wheel. Mechanically as well as artistically I appreciate it increadibly so.... I volunteer with the Sacramento Bicycle Kitchen on Thursdays between 6 and 9 PM.

News

Welcome to the news section of walk the wheel. On here I will place some postings of articles for your entertainment, and reading pleasure.  As allways I do appreciate feedback, and I welcome it with open handlebars.

So lets start off with a piece that comes out of nearby my old town. I was living in Seattle, Wa for 8 years. It is a wonderful place in my mind. Well near there is Bremerton, just a ferry ride away. Been there many a times. Looks like some lady was asked to clothe herself as she was enjoying a nice bicycle ride wearing pants and pastes.  I'm surprised this actually made the news there because every year they have a naked bicycle ride in the Fremont neighborhood of Seattle???

NAKED!!! Oh No weary mind's beware!

Well I am in the Sacramento News and Review for this weeks edition...  Nice I must say.  Another foot of movement in a momentous approach at solving some issues within our cycling community.  Theft is where my main focus is as I know there is very little resource for this idea here in Sacramento.

So very sad news today.  Car Vs. Bicycle never a good sign.  This is to me a reminder that more people need to know about http://3feetplease.com/.  California has not as of yet jumped onto this campaign which I believe it should.  The Laws in California, state that you have to provide adequate distance to pass safely.  This is a safe pass law, which being better than no law; it still could use some improvement.  Not to neglect in addition to improvement it as well could use some enforcement.  This is a matter of interpretation where as some state's specify it as three feet.  Ohio is in fact calling it 5 feet.  I like this even better myself being a cyclist, I see that as a good thing for public safety.  I don't only feel bad for the cyclist, in addition I feel bad for the motorist.  The details have yet to be released as to the full story however any way you look at it this is a tragedy.

Bicyclist killed by car.

The thing I do believe should happen at this location is there should be a ghost bike set up at the scene of the collision.

Well this is an interesting article about a person being mad at bicyclist....  But they themselves now do the same thing....  Check it out, rather short read.  Local news for Sacramento.

Taken for a Ride.

After reading this I can only say one thing and that is to be mindful of others......  If you were walking on the sidewalk would you want to be mowed down by a cyclist????

Well in other news....  I have yet to meet with my writer speaking of articles.  I do hope to meet with him soon and push this page up and off of the ground.  We do have interest in chatting it up and seeing where we can get this walking wheel to glide freely.  For further reference to that in which I'm talking about read 9/7/2010.

OK so this morning I look in my e-mail........ I find some good news.  A nice e-mail that looks like this.....

Hi Mr. Blough,

I'm a freelance writer who was passed along your email by the News & Review regarding your upstart Walk the Wheel program. I would like to see if we could connect this week to talk about it. Perhaps I can even meet you this Thursday at the Bicycle Kitchen to chat.

Feel free to get in touch with me by email or at the number below.

Thanks,

Well I must say this just tickles me.

In other news check out this article.  It is the green way to move...  The Silicon Valley Bicycle Commission really does know how to make a move.  They moved there whole office this way.
